My Power amplifier has a noisy channel in the Preamp I think, Help!?
I have a radioshack MPA-250 power amplifier (nothing fancy, I know) and there is some noise, hissy sounds coming from the left channel only. The noise gets worse and worse the longer the amplifier stays on. the noise will turn down when I turn the volume down, So I think that tells me that its in the Preamp, and not the output transistor stage. I did short the RCA input and that did stop the noise, but as soon as I unplugged the short the amplifier will read over 1 DC volt coming through the speaker terminal output. My question now is could it be a capacitor or resistor, and where do I find it?? any help would be great thank you.
I know its not the speakers, sorry I forgot to mention that I have narrowed it down to something in the amplifier. the speakers and cables are fine. & I dont believe Ive ran DAB through it.
And how big is the capacitor Im looking for? Im looking around the Preamp area and testing the caps.
If the noise changes with adjustment of the volume control. then it is in either the source or the preamp, not in the power amp.
DC on the speaker output is an entirely separate problem in the power amp. There may be a DC offset adjustment in the amp, or else the amp needs servicing.
