it's good ideal to purchase the Power amps with total of 750watt to run a pair of JBL JRX 125 speaker?
I have a 2 JBL JRX 125 speaker with a * Power Capacity: 500 watts and Peak Power Capacity: 2000 watts Nominal Impedance:8 ohms. but i want to purchase a Power Amps with total 750 watts, will this amps give enough power to run those speakers?
According the spec sheet, the nominal impedance of the JRX 125 is 4 Ω , not 8 Ω http://www.jblpro.com/JRX/pdf/JBL_JRX125.v1.pdf . That's important to know in shopping for an amp, because the lower the load impedance, the more current the amp has to deliver stably. And it's not a linear relationship, it's a square power law relationship. For the same power, an amp has to deliver 4 times the current to a 4 Ω load at a given RMS voltage, as it would to an 8 Ω load.
That said, the difference between a 375 watt per channel stereo amp, and a 500 watt per channel stereo amp, in terms of peak loudness, is about 2 to 3 db, for speakers that are essentially linear in efficiency. Not only does the square power law bite you bad when you try to get loud with bigger amps, but even worse, so does the human ear's logarithmic response to sound pressure. So essentially, you've got nature's square power law times the human ear's natural log insensitivity, at high sound pressure. The result is, you'd do well with a 100 watt per channel amp. Jumping up to 200 watts per channel would get you, theoretically, for a speaker with perfectly linear efficiency, about +3 db louder (about 3 times the smallest perceptible change in loudness the human ear can detect). Jumping up to 375 watts per channel, is going to get you about + 5 or +6 db additional maximum loudness over the 100 watt per channel amp.
Going from the JBL spec sheet, at 500 watts RMS, these speakers are good for a 133 db SPL. Cut down the amp to 375 watts per channel, and you'll get something in the range of 130 to 131 db max SPL. Cut it down to a 100 Watt Channel amp, and you'd still pump out around 126 db SPL. Even a 50 watt per channel home stereo reciever will light these speakers up at nearly123 db SPL.
They're efficient speakers, like all JBL speakers are. All you're doing with the big amps is running up your power bills, making some waste heat for your air conditioner to deal with in summer, and making tiny waves in drink glasses within a couple feet of the speakers.
Nobody really believes this, until they try it for themselves. And that "faith in numbers" instead of physics, is what makes big amplifiers, and Monster Cables, the profit darlings of the audio world.
