Any suggestion on which DJ headphones to purchase?
My boyfriend is an EDM deejay and his headphones at home are seriously JB-Welded together...he needs a new pair. His birthday is coming up and thought this would be a marvelous idea. However, I am new to the EDM/DJ scene and am not sure which brands are good and which brands are not. I am a college student on a budget so I can't get too crazy.
What I want from these headphones---
Awesome sound quality.
Durability.
Inexpensive. (Not "cheap," though.)
Comfortable fit.
You know, things everybody wants, right?!
If you are a DJ, or have some experience with my situation, I would love to hear your suggestions...

I'd go with Sony. Pioneer and Allen & Heath are considered generally to be some of the best DJ headphones around but for the money I don't see them as significantly better than the Sony offerings. The Sony MDR-V6 (and its identical twin the 7506) are studio Monitor Headphones, and while they have swivel cups, loud output, good isolation, and are fine for most bars and clubs, they don't over-emphasize the bass which might be needed to mix clearly over crappy overdriven rave soundsystems. Also I'd avoid Stanton headphones, or anything by Scullcandy. They're cheap plastic and they break easy. Durability-wise, the MDR-v700DJ, like the Pioneer and A&H phones, are all metal, whereas the V6 is plastic over a metal headband, which in all fairness is a decent compromise as it keeps them light without making them easy to break. The only drawback to the V6s is that the design is a bit dated, or perhaps more "professional-looking" opposed to being slick and trendy-looking like the V700s or the Pioneers. But its superficial. They've been industry-standard for years and the specs are as good as any other. Like most things, you pay for style over performance.
So, the numbers:
Sony MDR-V6 - $60-$100
Sony MDR-V700DJ - $100-$150
Pioneer HDJ - $200+
Allen&Heath - $300+
In summary I would get the V700DJ if I could afford it, but the V6 is no downgrade and doubles as accurate studio monitors if he does or ever gets into producing his own music. The V6s have been recording-industry standards for 20+ years, so its no compromise.
