Music mastering studio threatens to turn me in to collections?
i had some mastering work done on some songs and there was really no effort put into the job from the mastering engineer.the levels were higher and that's about it.i let him know that's all the difference i heard and then got an invoice for total amount due.i didn't get a copy of anything(cd master) and just some wave files from the internet i took as samples.can they really get collection for this?i didn't sign a contract or anything and he did not due a sufficient job.all they have is my name and address.what can be done here?
If they did any work at all for you, and it sounds like they did, you likely owe them something. Maybe not the full amount agreed upon. You can wait for them to take you to small claims court, tell your side, and hope you don't owe the full amount. Keep any proof/communication - voicemails, email, etc.
If you want to be more proactive, you could pay them, write "paid under duress" on the check, then take them to court to get part of it back.
