What is the best way to record my live mixes?
I am trying to record my live mixes, so this is probably an engineering question. I am using Scratch Live, a Pioneer DJM-600 mixer, and a DIGI-002 board running Pro Tools 6.1. Most times I am doing too much to engineer myself, so when I bring in the next track, my levels come out either too low or too high and distorted. So, my questions are as follows:
1.)Can anyone give me guidelines to use on which Pro-Tool-included plug-ins to use and specifically how to set them in order to keep my tracks at the same level. (i.e., normalize, roll-off, etc.)
2.)Or, is there a non-Pro Tools plug-in that is specifically made for this purpose.
3.)Or, should I just have someone at the board to engineer for me.
Hmmm... I used to DJ (with actual records lol). I'm assuming you mean when you go from one song to the next, sometimes the level of volume doesn't match.
Well, the way I did it is practice lol. I would learn where the knobs had to be before hand to get the levels right. But yea, it wasn't the most effective or practical method.
I also have protools, but using the plugins probably wont' get the affect you want. If you can, I would recommened this. Don't know if your mixer has this, but is it possible to have the turntables recording into separate tracks? That way, your mixes will still be in synch but you can change the levels of one without effecting the other.
